The problem was caused by a "bug" in the latex2html extensions in the
Python Doc directory.  I reported this some time ago - it looks like
it has been fixed in 2.3.

I will rebuild all of the documentation with Python 2.3 and reinstall.
Still having funny problems with PNG image generation on this
machine...
